Woman ticketed in I-74 crash

A Westville woman was ticketed after a three-vehicle collision near a construction zone on westbound Interstate 74 in on Tuesday morning.

State police said Christine L. Clifford, 59, was driving west about 2 miles west of the St. Joseph exit at about 7:35 a.m. Tuesday.

Traffic began to slow down in a construction zone and Clifford's car hit a van driven by Dean Bobby Dempsey, 41, of Danville. Dempsey's van swerved to the right shoulder. Clifford's car then veered off Dempsey's van and hit a van that had stopped, driven by Nicholas J. Nixon, 30, of Ridge Farm.

Clifford was injured but refused medical treatment, police said. Dempsey and Nixon were unhurt.

Clifford was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

There were reports on Twitter of a 2-mile backup on I-74 after the crash.
