Rantoul bicyclist arrested for suspected drugs

RANTOUL — Police arrested a Rantoul bicyclist early Wednesday morning after they found suspected drugs in his pocket.

Nicholas Massie, 50, who listed an address in Rantoul, pleaded innocent on Wednesday to delivery of methamphetamine.

According to Rantoul Sgt. Marcus Beach, police received information that Massie, who is on parole for aggravated driving under the influence and driving with a revoked or suspended license, may have been in possession of a controlled substance.

A police officer saw Massie riding his bicycle in Rantoul at about 1 a.m. Wednesday and pulled him over. When police searched Massie, they found a little over 0.07 ounces (2 grams) of suspected methamphetamine in his pocket, arrested him and took him to the Champaign County Jail.

Judge Richard Klaus set Massie's next court appearance for July 10.

I seemed to have missed the "reasonable cause" for the police stopping him in the first place.... Gotta love the RPD!!!! If theyre not tampering with your rear license plate lights (of course, "claiming" the lights are out after they pop em out!!), they're just stopping you for no other reason!!!

Thank you for your comment. Police said the bicyclist was on parole and subject to random stops at any time.

Why would you or anyone want to be in Rantoul?

Because you obviously aren't aware, there are decent people and neighborhoods in Rantoul.  I bought a house in Rantoul, because I couldn't afford to live in Champaign.  Thanks for assuming that I am less of a person because I live there.
