Thomasboro hires principal/superintendent

THOMASBORO — Bonnie McArthur has been hired as full-time superintendent/principal at Thomasboro Grade School.

She succeeds Michelle Ramage as superintendent, a part-time position. Ramage's resignation was accepted by the school board at its May meeting. Ramage resigned after recently being named superintendent of the Rantoul City Schools district.

McArthur has served as Thomasboro principal for the last four years and expands her administrative role to also include the superintendent's position — a dual role that Ramage previously held for three years before becoming superintendent only and serving on a part-time basis. The change becomes official July 1.

A native of Sidney, McArthur, who is 41, earned a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Illinois. She earned a master's degree and a certificate of advanced study, both in educational organization and leadership, from the U of I.

McArthur, who will receive an annual salary of $100,000, began her teaching career in 1994-95 at Ludlow Grade School, where she taught junior high for one year. She was hired at Thomasboro to teach junior high in 1995 — a job she held for 13 years before moving into an administrative role.

McArthur said she is excited and confident about being named superintendent.

"I think that I've been exposed to many aspects of the position," she said. "While I'm going to be new to the superintendent's job, I've learned a great deal from Michelle, who is an extraordinary administrator. I'm looking forward to it."
