How to help those who need drivers

Could you spare a few hours to drive a cancer patient or a senior to places they need to go?

The hours are flexible. You specify when you can volunteer and how much, local nonprofit agencies supplying the service say.

Here's how to volunteer:

Provena Faith in Action

transportation program

You must be at least 18 years old, have a valid driver's license in the state in which you live, have a vehicle in working condition and vehicle insurance.

To apply: Call Linda Tauber-Olson at 337-2022.

American Cancer Society

You must be 21 or older, have a valid driver's license and insurance, and be willing to watch a short training video at home.

To apply to volunteer in Champaign, Clay, Coles, Cumberland, Clark, Crawford, Douglas, Edgar, Effingham, Fayette, Ford, Iroquois, Jasper, Lawrence, Moultrie, Piatt, Richland, Shelby and Vermilion counties: Call Pam Barak at the Champaign American Cancer Society office at 356-9076.

Family Service of Champaign County Senior Resource Center transportation program

You must be 18 or older with a valid driver's license, a good driving record and auto insurance.
