United Way needs help near goal

DANVILLE — The United Way of Danville Area announced Tuesday that it's less than $5,000 from its campaign goal of $700,000, so the organization is making one final push to reach its goal.

The United Way is asking businesses and individuals for a little extra help in surpassing its target in the final days of May.

Campaign Co-Chair Mike Hulvey said in a news release Tuesday that he believes the organization can reach the goal with the help of the community. Organization officials are asking any interested donors to call United Way staff at 442-3512 or email at unitedwayda.com to make a donation or ask any questions.

According to campaign officials, reaching the $700,000 goal allows the United Way of Danville Area to invest in various local programs that deliver services to hundreds of people, including providing food for families and books for children, helping seniors get to medical appointments, providing counseling to keep families together, teaching children with developmental delays the skills they need for school and life and helping women with abusive partners find safe shelter for themselves and their children.
