Urbana man arrested in drug case while on bond for another

CHAMPAIGN — An Urbana man who was out on bond for allegedly having heroin intended for sale is back in police custody for a similar crime.

Champaign police Sgt. Tom Walker said Antwoine B. High, 38, who listed an address in the 0-100 block of Country Squire Drive, Urbana, was arrested just before 3 p.m. Thursday for possessing heroin and crack cocaine. He was a passenger in a car that police stopped in the 200 block of East Beardsley Avenue in Champaign.

Walker said the officer who stopped the car learned that the driver was wanted on a Douglas County warrant for driving under revocation. Walker said officers also recognized High from his arrest in Champaign on May 5.

In that earlier incident he was found nodding off in the back seat of a car that was stopped on North Neil Street. He had suspected heroin in several plastic bags in a backpack and cash on him. High had appeared in court on that charge on Tuesday and had his case continued to July 24. He was out on bond from that case when he was arrested Thursday.

Walker said on Thursday, an Illinois State Police drug detecting dog alerted police that there might be drugs in the car. Police found about a half-gram of crack cocaine and just under two-tenths of an ounce of heroin (4.5 grams) on High.

He was charged Friday with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance.

If convicted of the charges in both cases, he would have to serve the sentences for each one after the other.
