Passenger hurt in 2-vehicle crash near St. Joe
ST. JOSEPH — A 53-year-old woman was injured late Friday morning when the van she was riding in was hit in a two-vehicle collision east of St. Joseph.
Champaign County sheriff's deputy Jim Golaszewski said the accident happened at 11:50 a.m. at U.S. 150 and County Road 2350 E, also referred to as Sportsman's Club Road.
Golaszewski said Austin Hicks, 17, of St. Joseph was southbound in a car on 2350 E when he apparently failed to stop at the stop sign at 150 and hit a van that was eastbound on 150.
Neither Hicks nor the van driver, Jim Felkner, 50, of St. Joseph, was seriously injured, but a passenger in Felkner's van, Lorna Reeley of St. Joseph, was hurt when her air bag deployed, Golaszewski said.
She was taken to Provena Covenant Medical Center in Urbana, where she was treated and released.
Golaszewski said Hicks would be ticketed for failure to yield at a stop intersection. He was alone in his car. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene due to heavy damage.
