Philo man treated and released after excavator rolls over

CHAMPAIGN — A Philo man was treated for minor injuries Friday morning after the piece of heavy equipment he was operating rolled over.

Illinois State Police said John Meharry, 28, was working on the southbound side of Interstate 57 near I-74 about 9:25 a.m.

He had just finished drilling a hole for a sign post and was backing away when the excavator started to slide down the ditch and rolled over. The excavator came to rest on its roof.

Meharry was able to get out on his own. He was treated and released form Carle Foundation Hospital.
