Police locate one of two accused in Urbana shooting

URBANA — Urbana police arrested one man and are looking for another in connection with a shooting in Urbana late Tuesday afternoon that injured an 28-year-old.

Officers were called to the parking lot of a business in the 600 block of East Main Street about 4:45 p.m., where the 28-year-old was found, shot in the thigh. He was treated and released from Carle Foundation Hospital.

The shooting happened a block away, in the 700 block of East Main, police said.

Police were looking for Ardis Fenn, 23, and Gabe Chaney, 18. They say Fenn was armed with a .22-caliber rifle, and that the two drove away in Chaney's car, a faded grey late 1990s model Chevy Caprice with a maroon interior.

Fenn was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and red shorts. He has short braids in his hair and a teardrop tattoo on his face. Chaney, who listed an address in the 200 block of Hessel Boulevard, Champaign, was in custody Wednesday morning at the county jail on a preliminary charge of aggravated battery with a firearm and was expected to make an afternoon court appearance. He turned himself in to Champaign police about 11:10 p.m. Tuesday, according to Urbana police.

Anyone with information about Fenn or the incident is asked to call Urbana police at 384-2320 or Crimestoppers at 373-TIPS. Tips also can be left online at www.373tips.com or via text by sending CUTIP plus the information to CRIMES.

(An earlier version of the story, based on information provided by police, said the victim was 18. He was 28.)
