Danville man charged in incident in Urbana library

URBANA — A Danville man was charged with aggravated battery after allegedly grabbing a woman's leg in the Urbana Free Library Wednesday.

John Manning, 44, was ordered to have no contact with the woman or the library at his arraignment Thursday.

Assistant State's Attorney Scott Bennett said Manning approached a 19-year-old woman in the reading room of the library and told her he wanted to have her children. He then allegedly grabbed her bare leg on the calf and twisted until she yelled.

Judge Richard Klaus set Manning's bond at $5,000. He's due back in court Aug. 7. Because of his criminal record, Manning faces a maximum sentence of two to 10 years in prison if convicted.

If he told her that he wanted to have her children, there may be some problems with basic biology understanding (among other things).
