United Samaritans has new chief medical officer

DANVILLE — Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville has appointed a new chief medical officer.

Dr. Charles C. Canver will join the staff as vice president for medical affairs/chief medical officer.

He currently serves as chief executive officer of Near East University Hospital in Nicosia, Cyprus. When he is stateside, his home is in Albany, NY.

Canver has more than 22 years in the medical field. He has served as medical director of several heart programs, as well as in other leadership roles.

Canver trained at Kayseri University in Kayseri, Turkey, and served as a research scholar at the University of Minnesota. He completed his general surgery and cardiothoracic residency at the University of Buffalo, and received his masters in business administration from George Washington University. He has obtained his certified physician executive designation as well as becoming a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Canver and his wife, Renee, will be relocating to the Danville area. The couple has four adult children currently living on the East Coast.
