Fire marshal says mobile home fire was intentionally set

UPDATED 6:10 p.m.

CHAMPAIGN - Investigators have concluded that a fire that caused extensive damage to a mobile home but no injuries early Monday morning was intentionally set.

Fire Department Capt. Bob Quinlan said firefighters were called just before 4:30 a.m. to 30 Juniper Drive at the Shadowwood North Mobile Home Park on North Market Street.

Quinlan said the trailer had been vacant for about a month and that the power had been turned off.  One end of the older mobile home received extensive fire damage.

No one was reported hurt.  A damage estimate was not yet available.`

Champaign Fire Marshal John Koller said on Monday afternoon that investigators had found evidence that somebody had been in the vacant mobile home prior to the fire, and an analysis of the scene led investigators to eliminate possible causes other than arson.

Fire Department Capt. David Ferber said the case has been turned over to the Champaign Police Department for investigation of the arson.
