Danville man dies after being hit by truck

URBANA — A 45-year-old Danville man died early Friday morning after he was hit was a pickup truck just west of Danville late Thursday night.

Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup said Charles J. Embro died at 12:35 a.m. at Carle Foundation Hospital’s emergency room.

An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday, and an inquest may be held at a later date.

The crash occurred at 11:39 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 150 and Henning Road.

Vermilion County Sheriff Pat Hartshorn said Robert J. Ingram of Danville told authorities that he was driving his truck east on U.S. 150 when a man ran out into the highway in front of him. Hartshorn said a police officer, who happened to be stopped at the intersection and witnessed the accident, confirmed Ingram’s story.

“He observed the vehicle, and said it appeared to be traveling at a normal rate of speed,” Hartshorn said of the officer. He added Ingram was not issued any tickets.

Hartshorn said his office still is investigating the accident. He said blood samples were taken from both the driver and the victim, and will be sent to the Illinois State Police crime lab.
