Urbana school board to meet Wednesday on teachers' contract

Story updated at 9:50 a.m. Monday

URBANA — The Urbana school board will have a special meeting at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday to take possible action on a three-year contract with the Urbana Education Association, which represents Urbana's teachers.

The meeting is at the Jean F. Burkholder Administrative Service Center, 205 N. Race St., U.

Board President John Dimit said the tentative contract is the subject of Wednesday's meeting.

"The process at this point is for the teachers' union to meet and ratify it, and then it will be brought before the board," Dimit said.

Beth Hand, the most recent past president of the Urbana Education Association, said the teachers will vote on the contract but couldn't comment on when that will happen.

"All we can say at this point is that our team and (the school district's) team has worked really hard together and we've come up with a tentative agreement," Hand said.
