More house burglaries reported in northern Champaign County
RANTOUL - Champaign County sheriff's deputies are investigating two more residential burglaries that occurred in northern Champaign County early this week, one west of Rantoul and another east of the village.
Sgt. Jeff Vercler said a resident of the 2900 block of County Road 1100 E, about four miles west of Rantoul, reported that her home was entered between 4:15 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Monday. Several pieces of jewelry, a 19-inch television, and a camera, with a total value of about $8,000 were stolen. Vercler said a diamond ring and bracelet were among the stolen pieces of jewelry. Items were strewn about the house.
In another burglary Tuesday, a home in the 2000 block of County Road 2600 N, about three miles east of Rantoul, was apparently entered through an unlocked door to the garage between 9:40 a.m. and 8 p.m.
Sgt. Dan Coile reported that the items stolen included a 32-inch television, a 19-inch television, a 9 mm Glock handgun and two loaded magazines for it, a laptop computer, a Mason jar with about $175 in coins, a jewelry box, and a gold necklace.
The burglaries came on the heels of another that happened Friday just west of Rantoul on County Road 1200 E. A laptop computer, jewelry and change were stolen in that break-in.
Sheriff's deputies encourage anyone who sees vehicles or people they don't recognize around their homes to call 911 immediately. Coile said there have been several break-ins in northern Champaign County in the last six weeks that have happened during the day. Anyone with information can also call Crimestoppers at 373-8477.
