Urbana man arrested for criminal sexual abuse

URBANA — A 22-year-old Urbana man is due back in court on Aug. 28 in connection with the criminal sexual abuse of an Urbana woman.

Michael E. Finley, 22, who listed an address in the 1000 block of Colorado Avenue, Urbana, pleaded innocent on Thursday to criminal sexual abuse, aggravated battery and resisting a peace officer.

On Wednesday, Judge Richard Klaus set Finley's bond at $150,000 and ordered him to have no contact with the woman.

According to Urbana police Sgt. Dan Morgan, a 23-year-old Urbana woman was walking on the sidewalk in the 1100 block of South Orchard Street at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday when she was approached from behind by a man who tackled her to the ground and then inappropriately touched her body.

As the woman struggled with the attacker, a resident who lived nearby heard the commotion. While the resident couldn't see anything, she dialed 911 and yelled out the door that she was doing so.

Morgan said the man suddenly let go of the woman and took off running east.

A few minutes later, Urbana police officers saw a man matching the victim's description of the attacker who looked sweaty and out of breath.

When police ordered the man, identified as Finley, to stop, he took off running. Police chased him for a couple of blocks and caught and arrested him in a yard.

Morgan said the victim then identified Finley as the man who had attacked her.

According to a police report, the woman had minor injuries, including a scrape and a bruise.
