Urbana police investigating bank robbery

URBANA — Urbana police are investigating a robbery at a bank in southeast Urbana that occurred late Thursday morning.

Lt. Bob Fitzgerald said about 11:55 a.m., a man entered the Heartland Bank, 1812 S. Philo Road, and passed a note to a teller saying he wanted money.

Although he did not display a weapon, he implied he had a gun, Fitzgerald said.

The teller, who was one of three employees in the bank, handed over an undisclosed amount of cash and the robber left on a bicycle headed south. No one was harmed.

Fitzgerald described the robber as a black man, about 40 to 50 years old, 6 feet 4 inches tall, with a medium build and a large Afro.

He was wearing a black ball cap with white letters on the front and a polo shirt with white, green, yellow and black colors.

Anyone with information on the bank robbery is asked to call Urbana police at 384-2320 or Crimestoppers at 373-8477.

It just shows you how arrogant and fearless these thugs are. Reaalllly..what is the pride in hard earned money when you can steal what does not belong to you? That is what really bugs me. True karma would be as he is speeding off, a car--nah, that is harsh. I won't say more.

I was robbed once. He got all of $88. He cried in court. He served 25 years. Feel better?
