Champaign man charged with sexual assault in Urbana

URBANA — A Champaign man accused of sexually assaulting a woman in her home in Urbana in May is due back in court in September.

Ricky G. Hunt, 27, who listed an address in the 0-100 block of Comanche Drive, was charged Friday with criminal sexual assault in connection with a May 26 incident that occurred in the 2400 block of Prairie Green.

Urbana police investigator Shaun Cook said the 21-year-old woman reported to police that day that Hunt was a guest of her sister's. He walked in a bedroom and asked her to come in there. When she did, he allegedly pushed her on a bed, removed her clothing and sexually assaulted her.

She told police that he ignored her requests for him to stop, eventually let her up, and said he was sorry before leaving the apartment with friends.

Police found Hunt riding a bicycle in a northwest Champaign neighborhood late Thursday morning. When they tried to stop him, he dumped the bike and ran but was eventually caught.

Judge Richard Klaus on Friday set Hunt's bond at $200,000 and told him to be back in court Sept. 4.

If convicted of the Class 1 felony, Hunt faces penalties ranging from probation to four to 15 years in prison.
