Danville police investigate murder

DANVILLE — Danville police continue to investigate the murder of a 50-year-old woman whose body was found late last week.

A relative found the body of Joan E. Duckworth in her home, located in the 500 block of Porter Street, shortly after 9 p.m. June 28. An autopsy showed she died of blunt force trauma.

"We believe it's someone she knew," said Public Safety Deputy Director Doug Miller.

Miller declined to say whether detectives had any suspects. However, he said, they have been interviewing a number of people.

"We're still attempting to locate any other witnesses or individuals who may have knowledge of the victim," he said.

Police were called to Ms. Duckworth's residence by the woman's relative. The relative had not heard from Ms. Duckworth in a few days, grew concerned, went over to her house to check on her and found the body.

Neighbors said Ms. Duckworth had lived at the Porter Street residence for only a couple of months. Miller said she lived by herself "off and on."

Miller urged anyone with any information should call the police department's criminal investigation division at 431-2245 or at Crimestoppers at 446-TIPS (8477). Callers may remain anonymous.
