Urbana teen arrested for apartment burglary

URBANA — Police arrested an Urbana teen on Sunday in connection with an apartment burglary after they saw him pedaling away on a bicycle several blocks away from the incident.

Allen Beard Baines, 17, who listed an address in the 200 block of West Washington Street, Urbana, pleaded innocent on Monday to felony residential burglary.

According to an Urbana police report, a man living in the 600 block of South Broadway Avenue, reported hearing a loud noise in his apartment at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The victim said some electronics, including an iPod, were missing from the apartment, and he saw a man run out of the building and leave on a bicycle.

Urbana police saw a man matching the description given by the victim riding a bicycle at Vine Street and California Avenue and stopped him.

Baines admitted to police that he had just sold the iPod to another person, according to the report.

Baines was taken to the Champaign County Jail. His next court appearance was set for Aug. 21.
