Urbana man charged in drug case

URBANA — An Urbana man allegedly selling cannabis out of the laundry room of an apartment complex has been criminally charged,

Leronus Johnson III, 25, who listed an address in the 1100 block of Colorado Avenue, was charged Tuesday with possession with intent to deliver cannabis and obstructing justice in connection with his Monday night arrest.

Urbana police Sgt. Dan Morgan said about 9:40 p.m., private security guards at an apartment complex in the 2000 block of Philo Road were checking the property when they found Johnson in a darkened laundry room.

He ran from them but they caught him and held him until police arrived.

Morgan said police found about 10 grams of cannabis on Johnson in several individual bags and about 4 1/2 ounces of suspected cannabis and scales in the laundry room.

Johnson gave police a false name, which authorities straightened out at the county jail, where they were able to compare booking photos on file.

Johnson was also arrested for an outstanding Urbana city ordinance violation case from 2010 in which he pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis, Morgan said.
