Man arrested in Broadlands for residential burglary in rural Newman

UPDATED 11:20 p.m.

NEWMAN — A man wanted for allegedly taking part in a rural residential burglary in Douglas County last month was arrested Tuesday night.

Douglas County Chief Deputy Peter M. Buckley said Champaign County sheriff’s deputies arrested Larry A. Driggers, 32, in Broadlands in connection with a residential burglary June 26 in rural Newman.

Driggers was arrested a few hours after Douglas County Crimestoppers asked the public for information on his whereabouts.

Buckley said Driggers is being held at the Champaign County Jail awaiting extradition to Douglas County.

Buckley said the burglar took a variety of items, including a pickup truck, a washing machine, some propane heaters and a portable cart.

Buckley said arrest warrants had also been issued for Driggers for failing to appear in court, being in possession of a weapon and aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer.
