Woman still hospitalized after bike accident

MAHOMET — A rural Mahomet woman remained hospitalized in fair condition Wednesday after a bicycle accident Sunday evening.

Champaign County sheriff's Sgt. Dan Coile said Marianne M. Carrara-Hay, 47, and her husband, Kent J. Hay, 46, were riding their bicycles at 8 p.m. about 4 miles north of Mahomet on County Road 2700 N near 200 E when Hay started to make a turn on a curve. His wife apparently didn't notice he was turning, kept going straight ahead, and hit his rear tire.

She fell from her bike, struck her head and lost consciousness, Coile said.

Because neither of them had a cell phone, Hay ran to a nearby home to call for help.

Carrara-Hay was taken to Carle Hospital where she was reported to be improving from a concussion.
