Fundraisers involving police set for this week

Two popular fundraisers that put local police officers to work will be held this Friday.

One supports breast cancer research and the other Special Olympics Illinois.

The sixth annual "Cops of Coffee" kicks off at 6 a.m. at 16 locations in Champaign, Mahomet, Monticello, Rantoul, Savoy and Urbana.

A $5 donation gets you a keepsake travel mug and drink plus a chance to win a 1000 Series Braten Grill or an iPad 2.

Proceeds from the fundraiser, begun in memory of the late Illinois State Trooper Sue Voges of St. Joseph, support the Mills Breast Cancer Institute.

The cups will be available until 10 a.m. at:

Later in the morning, area police officers who support Special Olympics Illinois through the Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run will be at the Texas Roadhouse, 204 N. Country Fair Drive, C.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. officers will serve a "free" lunch.

The meal consists of a pulled pork sandwich, corn, fresh baked bread with honey cinnamon butter, and a non-alcoholic beverage.

Patrons are asked to make a donation of their choosing for the meal. All of the proceeds go to Special Olympics Illinois.
