Charges dismissed against teen

URBANA — Criminal charges filed against an Urbana teen in connection with a shooting earlier this year have been dismissed.

Assistant State's Attorney Chris Kanis said he dismissed attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm charges against Jamonte Hill, 18, who listed an address in the 1000 block of Geraldine Avenue, because a key witness recanted his version of what happened.

Hill was one of two men accused of a shooting that occurred April 24 near Clock and Bellefontaine streets in Champaign in which two men were wounded. Both were taken to Carle Foundation Hospital for treatment.

A warrant is outstanding for another man also charged in that case, Marcquaz Hopkins, 22.
