Neil Street closure to last into next week

CHAMPAIGN — Work on Neil Street will continue into next week while "unanticipated underground conditions" delay the project that was expected to be completed on Friday.

Neil Street has been closed between Church Street and Park Avenue since Monday for sewer work and to add a manhole, both related to the hotel project proposed at the site of the former Metropolitan Building.

According to a press release, Neil Street is now expected to reopen some time next week.

All businesses along Neil Street remain open, and officials are urging that drivers in the area use caution.
