Champaign man arrested for DUI in construction zone

CHAMPAIGN - A Champaign man was arrested for driving under the influence after his truck hit a maintenance vehicle on Interstate 74 late Monday night then kept going.

A release from the Illinois State Police said Dennis G. Horn, 59, was driving west on I-74 near Champaign in a pickup truck about 10:35 p.m.  when he failed to stop for a highway maintenance truck that was serving as a traffic control device for a road reflector installation project.

The release said Horn hit the rear crash cushion of the maintenance vehicle then left the scene, driving for about a half mile on a flat front tire. The truck went through the median and was found on the eastbound side of the interstate.

The report said Horn was arrested for DUI, leaving the scene of an accident and several other traffic offenses that were not listed. He was taken to the Champaign County jail, where he later posted bond and was released.

No one was injured in the accident.

When are people going to realize that driving drunk is not a good choice?  He's lucky he hit the truck and not a worker.
