Electronics recycling set for Saturday

CHAMPAIGN — Another countywide residential electronics recycling will be held Saturday at The News-Gazette Distribution Center, 3202 Apollo Drive, C.

The event will be from 8 a.m. to noon. Access to the distribution center is at the intersection of North Market Street and East Olympian Drive.

Several teams of community service workers will be on hand to unload electronic items, including televisions, computers, laptops, computer monitors and printers, from automobiles. There is no charge for the collection. It is sponsored by local governments, The News-Gazette and a number of other private companies.

Most electronic items contain metals such as lead, cadmium and mercury that are harmful to the environment. Since Jan. 1, televisions, monitors and other electronic items have been banned from Illinois landfills.

More information on Saturday's recycling drive is available at the Champaign County Regional Planning Commission website at http://www.ccrpc.org or by calling 328-3313.
