Hello from London: Susan McGill's Olympic diary 8/1
Champaign’s Susan McGill, Olympian swimmer Tyler McGill’s mom, is at the London Games. Here is her latest report:
We made it to London and to our house by 1 p.m. Tuesday. Olympic signs and activities are everywhere you look, even special parking and lines for Olympics were at Heathrow!
Tuesday we explored the area where our house is located. We found a lovely pub around the corner and everyone there is now ready to cheer for USA’s Tyler McGill!
By Wednesday, Tyler’s wife Julianne arrived. Elliott and Colin went to the Olympic Village to see Tyler and pick up a few of his things —all with USA and Olympic monograms. Needless to say all the guys here wore the stuff. As they traveled around they were looked at often and even stopped and asked what sport they were with!
We went to Tower of London and Tower Bridge. While in the area we stopped at Katherine’s Marina at a sponsor’s yacht moored on the Thames to say hi!! We all were impressed to think one day ago we were in Champaign and now here we are sitting on the Thames by the Tower Bridge!
We were able to visit with other USA families of swimmers and hear their stories about Olympic Park and the Aquatics Centre. We have an early morning getting to the Olympic Park and watch Tyler. Team USA is swimming well and we are excited for tomorrow! Go USA! Go Tyler!!!
