Man faces multiple sexual assault charges

URBANA — A Champaign man has been criminally charged with multiple felonies alleging that he sexually molested a young girl in his care for several years.

The Champaign County state's attorney's office Thursday charged Jeronimo Bolanos-Rayon, 42, who listed an address in the 0-100 block of Rain Tree Drive, with 10 counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and two counts of criminal sexual assault.

The charges allege multiple sex acts that occurred with a girl, who is now a teen, beginning in June 2007 and continuing up through Wednesday.

Champaign police Sgt. Dave Griffet said the girl's mother learned Wednesday of the alleged sexual contact and brought her daughter to the Champaign police department about noon Wednesday.

The girl was interviewed by police and trained professionals at the Child Advocacy Center Wednesday. Police also confronted Bolanos-Rayon Wednesday, interviewed him, and arrested him by late afternoon, Griffet said.

Predatory criminal sexual assault of a child is a Class X felony carrying penalties ranging from six to 60 years in prison. Criminal sexual assault is a Class 1 felony carrying penalties of between four and 15 years in prison.

If convicted of multiple counts, Bolanos-Rayon would have to serve the sentences for each count one after the other and he would have to serve 85 percent of any prison term he receives.
