PHILO — Champaign County sheriff's deputies are looking for the person or persons responsible for burglaries to several vehicles in the village over the last few days.

Sgt. Dan Coile said about 1 a.m. Thursday a person living in the 600 block of Ridge Road saw a teen-age boy trying to get in a truck around 1 a.m. When the truck owner confronted the youth, believed to be 15 to 18 years old, he ran and was not found. Nothing was taken from the truck.

A day earlier, four other vehicles had been entered, Coile said.

— In the 300 block of South Garfield, two vans that were unlocked in a garage, where the overhead door was left open, were entered. The keys to the ignition to both vans were stolen, along with Pall Mall cigarettes and a welder's shield. The thefts occurred between 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

— In the 300 block of Shamrock, an unlocked pickup truck that was parked in the driveway was entered during that same time frame. A wallet was taken from it but was later recovered by a garbage man on a nearby street. Nothing was missing. The burglar left behind the cigarettes and the welder's shield that had been taken in the South Garfield burglary.

— Another unlocked car in a driveway in the 300 block of Shamrock was also entered between 11:30 p.m. Tuesday and 6:45 a.m. Wednesday. A laptop computer, iPhone charger and ignition key, with a total value of $637, were stolen.

— Between 12:30 and 3:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 400 block of Roosevelt Road, someone spray-painted letters on a machine shed and a semitrailer tractor truck parked in the driveway. Damage was estimated at $400.
