Sheriff's office investigating vehicle burglaries

Champaign County sheriff's deputies are looking into vehicle burglaries that occurred late last week and early this week in Champaign and St. Joseph.

Sgt. Dan Coile said between Saturday evening and Monday evening, an unlocked pickup truck parked outside in the 4000 block of Riverknoll Drive in Champaign was entered. Two bags containing several pieces of baseball equipment, including bats, batting helmet, shin guards, gloves and balls, worth a total of $1,800, were stolen.

Between 8:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday, someone entered an unlocked car in an attached garage in the 1700 block of Bentbrook Drive in Champaign. The garage door had been left partially open for the resident's cat. Stolen from the car was a GPS and an adapter cord valued at $380.

Between 8:30 a.m. Sunday and 8:30 a.m. Monday, someone stole a CB radio, a case of 30 compact discs and a cell phone from an unlocked pickup truck in the 3200 block of Halifax Drive in Champaign. The items were valued at $440, Coile said.

And on Monday night or Tuesday morning, someone reached into the covered but not locked bed of a pickup truck in the 2200 block of Churchill Drive in St. Joseph and stole several power tools. Among the stolen tools were a drill, circular saw, screw gun, hammer and grinder, worth a total of $1,100.

Anyone with information on any of these burglaries is asked to call the sheriff's officer at 384-1213 or Crimestoppers at 373-8477.
