Vigil planned on UI campus following recent shooting in Wisconsin

URBANA— Several campus and community groups are holding a vigil Thursday evening on the University of Illinois campus in response to a recent shooting at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin and the burning of a mosque in Missouri.

The vigil will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the University YMCA, 1001 S. Wright St., and will continue to the Alma Mater spot at the corner of Green and Wright streets.

A gunman killed six people Sunday during services at a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wis., and a mosque was burned Monday in Joplin, Mo.

This vigil is sponsored by the Sikh Student Association, DiversityEd, Interfaith in Action, the Baha'i Center, the Asian American Cultural Center, La Casa Cultural Latina, the Women's Resources Center and the Office of Inclusion and Intercultural Relations.
