Five people taken to hospital following crash south of Westville

WESTVILLE — Five people were taken to the hospital following a two-vehicle crash Thursday evening south of Westville.

According to a state police report, Jose Figueroa, 40, of Danville was headed south on Illinois 1 and stopped in traffic attempting to make a left turn onto Clingan Lane when a second vehicle, driven by Emilie Young, 18, of Georgetown pulled up behind his vehicle.

Young said she was distracted, looking at a child in the backseat area, when her vehicle crashed into the rear of Figueroa's vehicle.

Young and a passenger, James Young, 1, of Georgetown, and three passengers in Figueroa's vehicle, Becky Figueroa, 38, of Danville, Annette Hernandez, 18, of Danville and Michael Courson, 17, of Danville, were all taken to Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville. Jose Figueroa was not injured, according to police.

Hernandez was treated and released. No information was available Thursday night on the other people taken to the hospital.

Police ticketed Emilie Young for failure to reduce speed.

The driver who was DISTRACTED is lucky no one was seriously injured!  Pay attention behind the wheel of a vehicle!  Geez!
