Police investigating Urbana robbery

URBANA - Urbana police are investigating the armed robbery of two men in that city late Wednesday night.

Lt. Bryant Seraphin said shortly after 10:30 p.m. a resident of the apartment complex at 1806 S. Cottage Grove Ave. and a friend pulled into the parking lot in a car. The men, both 18, were sitting in the car when two other young men approached.

One asked if he could borrow a lighter. As the passenger reached into his pocket, the man who approached showed him that he had a gun, then pointed it at both men in the car and demanded that they hand over their wallets, which they did.

The victims described the men who approached as being black, about 17 years old. The one with the small dark handgun had a dark complexion, a thin to average build, was about 5 feet 7 inches tall and was wearing a red hat and a white T-shirt. The second robber was described as being 5 feet 6 or 7 inches tall and was wearing a black hat and black T-shirt. He did not display a weapon.

Both of the robbers ran north. The victims went in the apartment complex and called police but they were unable to locate anyone.

If you have information on this crime, call Urbana police at 384-2320 or Champaign County Crimestoppers at 373-8477.

It appears that the Urbana City Council needs to obsess yet again about having at least one roundabout.  Or pass yet another worthless feel good resolution.

But when it comes to the city council and crime.........Crime?   In Urbana?...................where?  And the topic quickly changes to "Where?   Where what?   Where can we build a roundabout?  Hey, that's a fun topic.  Let's discuss roundabouts for the 28th time"

Madam Mayor.  In case you've failed to notice, while wasting time over and over studying roundabouts and passing worthless resolutions..   You have a rampant crime problem in southeast Urbana.  You've had a rampant crime problem in southeast Urbana for YEARS now.  And what ever changes?  Nothing.

You also have a motel out by Farm and Fleet that is quickly becoming an eyesore.  But we understand, north Cunningham Avenue and the southeast part of town are a long way from City Hall and your precious LED "tree" sculpture.

You have to admit, the landscaping on south Philo Road is pretty.

It's a lot better south of Windsor Road.  It's hard selling a house in southeast Urbana these days.  "Stop, and Frisk" would be a necessary blessing in southeast Urbana.

It's nice to see that southeast Urbana is turning into a "mini Chicago"  More section 8 housing vouchers please.
