Urbana police seek suspects in armed robbery

URBANA — Urbana police are investigating the armed robbery of two men late Wednesday night.

Lt. Bryant Seraphin said that shortly after 10:30 p.m., a resident of the apartment complex at 1806 S. Cottage Grove Ave. and a friend pulled into the parking lot. The men, both 18, were sitting in the car when two other young men approached. One asked if he could borrow a lighter. As the passenger reached into his pocket, one of the robbers displayed a gun, then pointed it at both men in and demanded that they hand over their wallets, which they did.

The victims described the robbers as being black, about 17 years old. The one with the small dark handgun had a dark complexion, a thin-to-average build, was about 5 feet 7 inches tall and was wearing a red hat and a white T-shirt. The second robber was described as being 5 feet 6 or 7 inches tall and was wearing a black hat and black T-shirt. He did not display a weapon. Both of the robbers ran north. The victims went in the apartment complex and called police.
