Two separate accidents on I-57 send drivers to hospital

ARCOLA — A Chicago truck driver was taken to a hospital after his semitrailer tractor truck overturned on an off ramp in Douglas County.

Illinois State Police said Jigmedtsoodol Sukhbaatar, 30, was southbound on Interstate 57 just after 5 p.m. and was getting off at the Arcola exit when he lost control of his truck and semitrailer and overturned on the off ramp.

Sukhbaatar was taken to Sarah Bush Hospital near Mattoon with non-life threatening injuries.

He was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

In an unrelated accident on I-57 that happened about an hour earlier, police said Irene Farmwald, 52, of Arthur, was southbound in a sport utility vehicle four miles north of Mattoon.

She was in the left lane passing a slower moving semitrailer which then apparently tried to switch into the lane she was in. Farmwald braked hard, locking up the tires, sending her vehicle into a skid.

It went in the median and rolled over, coming to rest on its wheels on the northbound side of the highway.

Police said she was taken to Sarah Bush Hospital but wasn’t hurt. She was not ticketed.
