Urbana man faces drug charges

URBANA — A 53-year-old Urbana man who allegedly had cocaine and heroin intended for sale at his home has been criminally charged.

Manson Winters, who lives in the 500 block of Scottswood Drive, was arrested early Thursday following a court-ordered search of his home by Champaign County sheriff's drug investigators.

Assistant State's Attorney Dan Clifton said deputies went to Winters' home about 5:30 a.m. with a warrant and found about an ounce (25 grams) of crack cocaine, 1.4 grams of heroin, and $2,175 cash, which included $80 in marked buy money used by police sources in previous drug buys.

Winters was charged with possession with intent to deliver cocaine, a Class X felony carrying penalties ranging from six to 30 years in prison upon conviction, and possession with intent to deliver heroin, a Class 1 felony, If convicted of that, he faces penalties ranging from probation to four to 15 years in prison.

Judge Rich Klaus set bond for Winters at $75,000 and told him to be back in court Oct. 23.

Clifton said Winters has prior convictions for drug possession, theft and driving with a revoked license.
