Woman robbed on campus

CHAMPAIGN — A Champaign woman walking alone in the campus area early Wednesday was robbed of her purse.

Champaign police Sgt. Dave Griffet said the woman, a University of Illinois student, was in the 100 block of East John Street about 1:15 a.m. when two men approached her.

Griffet said one of the men engaged her in a conversation and when she responded, the other man shoved her from behind, knocking her to the ground.

One of the men then pulled her purse from her and took off with it. It contained an electronic device, wallet and identification, Griffet said.

The woman sustained an injury to the side of her face from hitting the ground but did not require medical treatment.

She described her attackers as white, both about 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a medium build, short brown to blondish hair, clean-shaven, wearing dark colored shirts and shorts.

Griffet said the woman was about a block from her home when she was attacked.
