Camp provides help for children who've lost a family member

MONTICELLO — Coping with grief and loss is hard on anybody, but grieving children who have suffered the loss of a family member can need some special help.

Carle Hospice will provide it though a free day camp called Camp Healing Heart.

To be held Oct. 20, this camp is open to all kids ages 7 through 17 who have lost a loved one, regardless of where their family members received medical care, according to Carle.

It will be held at the University of Illinois 4-H Memorial Camp, Monticello, and focus on emotional and physical healing through teaching responses and coping skills.

Carle says nearly 300 children and teens have attended the camp since it started in 2005 and the hope is to host 60 youths at this year's camp.
