Champaign man charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse

URBANA — A Champaign man is due back in court in November after being charged with fondling a teenage girl.

Steven Ray Crawford, 35, who listed an address in the 2400 block of North Neil Street, was arraigned Friday on a single count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse alleging that sometime between Christmas 2011 and early April, he touched or fondled the sex organ of a girl in his care for his own sexual gratification.

Champaign police interviewed the girl with the help of professionals at the Children's Advocacy Center earlier this week.

Judge Richard Klaus set Crawford's bond at $50,000, ordered him to have no contact with the victim, and to be back in court Nov. 6.
