School resource fair scheduled for Saturday in Champaign

CHAMPAIGN — All Champaign school families are invited to attend a Family Resource Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Booker T. Washington Elementary School, 606 E. Grove St., C.

There will be free school physicals, immunizations and dental exams for those children still needing them to meet an Oct. 15 deadline.

Parents should bring a record of their kids' immunizations with them, said Sheri Williamson, a Champaign mom who organized the event.

Families of pre-kindergarden students are also invited to attend.

There will also be some free health screenings provided for parents, she said.

About 30 community organizations and agencies will be attending the resource fair, giving parents a chance to become familiar with their services, Williamson said.

Some of those that attending will be the Carle, Parkland College, Community Plus Federal Credit Union, Crisis Nursery, Don Moyer Boys and Girls Club, Salt and light, Wesley Evening Food Pantry and Empty Tomb. Champaign police will also be on hand with child identification kits, she said.

Families attending will have a chance to win prizes, thanks to several local business owners who made donations, Williamson said. Prizes include some $50 gift cards and a new Nook Color Tablet.
