Penfield man dies in two vehicle crash

UPDATED 7:30 p.m. Wednesday

RURAL FISHER —  A Penfield man was killed and a Cissna Park man was injured in a crash involving two pickup trucks Wednesday morning near Fisher.

Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup said in a release that Dennis E. Reed, 43, of Penfield was pronounced dead at 6:50 a.m. at the scene of the crash, near U.S. 136 and County Road 100 E west of Fisher.

Northrup said an autopsy performed Wednesday indicated that Mr. Reed died from multiple blunt-force injuries he received in the crash.

According to a state police report, Mr. Reed was driving east on U.S. 136 when his truck crossed the center lane into the path of a pickup truck driven by Gregory W. Maul, 31, of Cissna Park at 6 a.m. Wednesday. The vehicles crashed head-on.

Maul was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, which had no information on his condition on Wednesday night.
