GCMS expects to fill principal position this month
GIBSON CITY — A new high school principal is expected to be named before October.
Two finalists were interviewed for the job during a closed-session meeting last week, and Superintendent Anthony Galindo said the school board came out of the meeting committed to hiring one of them.
"At this point we are working on the contract (with the final candidate)," Galindo said.
Galindo declined to identify the person.
Galindo said the board will call a special meeting to vote to hire the person before Oct. 1, when high school Principal Mike Lindy's resignation goes into effect. Lindy has accepted a new job as superintendent of the El Paso-Gridley school district.
Thirty-two people applied for the high school principal job, and five of the applicants were invited for first-round interviews in front of a panel of staff. Two finalists were then selected from those five for second-round interviews in front of Galindo and the school board.
