Parkland enrollment down, but officials not concerned

The president of Parkland College in Champaign said enrollment at the college is down this fall, but it's not overly concerning to college officials.

That's the word from Parkland President Tom Ramage, who was a guest Tuesday on A Penny For Your Thoughts on NewsTalk 1400 WDWS.

Ramage said overall enrollment is down about 4 percent compared to last year.  But he said the drop isn't unexpected, and that it can be attributed in part to the economy.

Ramage also said the enrollment drop is causing the college to see fewer first-time freshmen enroll.  But, again, Ramage said it's not a pattern that's concerning.

Ramage said the overall drop in enrollment is a statewide trend.
