School invites community to join in 3K walk/run

CHAMPAIGN — The local community is invited to participate in a 3K walk/run with Carrie Busey Elementary School families at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

The school will be having its annual kick-off celebration of its CATCH, or Coordinated Approach to Child Health, program, which focuses on building healthful behaviors in students through better nutrition, physical activity, health education and family and community involvement.

The Saturday program will also include fruit and vegetable snacks and health and wellness games, said Nikki Hillier, Champaign-Urbana Public Health District program coordinator. There will also be activities such as yoga and Zumba.

The health district supports schools involved in CATCH programs and will be helping start CATCH programs at all Champaign County schools through a new state grant.

Anyone in the community who wants to take part should come to the school at 304 Prairie Rose Lane, Savoy. Activities will begin at the front entrance.
