VA to hold breast cancer awareness walk

DANVILLE — The Veterans Affairs Illiana Health Care System is sponsoring a breast cancer awareness walk on Oct. 6.

The walk, also sponsored by the VA's Employee Association and the Federal Women's Program will begin at 10 a.m., on the veterans hospital's main campus, 1900 E. Main St., Danville.

It is open to the public. Walkers will meet in front of the Green House homes, and they're encouraged to wear pink.

Signs will be placed at the main drive to direct and assist with parking.

The VA's Federal Women's Program offers a wide variety of services to assist female veterans with their physical and emotional needs. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The walk will feature information about breast cancer awareness along the route.

Monetary donations will be accepted on the day of the walk with 75 percent of the proceeds going to New Horizon's Support Group and 25 percent going to the Federal Women's Program to sponsor future events.

For more information on the walk or the Federal Women's Program, contact Patient-Centered Care Coordinator Rana Shouse at Rana.Shouse@va.gov or 554-5270, or Human resources Specialist Sherrie Ellis at Sherrie.Ellis@va.gov or 554-5955.
