CHAMPAIGN — Champaign police have released a photo from a Thursday night armed robbery at a gas station on the city's west side.
According to a police report, officers were called to the HP Sprinter gas station at 2401 W. Springfield Ave. at 9:11 p.m. after a man ran into the store, pointed a gun at a man who worked there and demanded the man give him the money from the cash register.
When the employee began arguing with the robber in an effort to stall him, the robber hit him.
After the employee gave cash to the armed man, the robber ran out of the store, heading east toward Kenwood Road.
Police described the robber as a light-skinned black man. He is between 5 feet, 10 inches and 6 feet tall and weighs between 180 and 200 pounds. He was wearing a black zip-up hooded sweatshirt, a red skull cap, a white T-shirt and blue jeans.
Champaign police spokeswoman Rene Dunn said the employee did not need medical attention at the time the police report was written.
