Rantoul man arrested for burglary in Urbana

URBANA — Police arrested a Rantoul man for burglary Sunday evening after they allegedly saw him cutting some copper piping in a home in Urbana.

Nathan Griffin, 43, who listed an address in Rantoul, pleaded innocent on Monday to burglary.

According to a police report, two people saw a man enter a house in the 1600 block of Ivanhoe Way, Urbana, at 8:22 p.m. Sunday. Since they did not recognize the man, they called police.

When officers arrived, they looked through a window and saw a man, identified as Griffin, using a tool to cut some copper piping. While police tried to open the front door of the home, Griffin opened a window and ran away from the house.

Police arrested Griffin just northeast of the house following a foot chase, according to the report.

Griffin's next court appearance was set for Nov. 11.
