Champaign man charged with break-in

CHAMPAIGN — A Champaign man was charged Monday with residential burglary for allegedly breaking in to a home in northwest Champaign on Friday.

Linnell Blount Jr., 18, who listed an address in the 600 block of East Vine Street, is accused of breaking into a home in the 1600 block of Hedge Road.

A Champaign police report said the woman living there returned home Friday to find her back door kicked in and her bedroom window screen removed.

While she was calling 911, she saw a person running from her house and recognized him to be Blount because she is familiar with his family and used to date his uncle.

The report said the woman called Blount by his nickname of "Junior" and that he turned and looked at her.

The woman reported that old check registers and costume jewelry were stolen from her home.

Blount was arrested Saturday in connection with an unrelated domestic dispute for which the state's attorney's office filed no criminal charges. At the time, he allegedly confessed to the Hedge Road break-in, the police report said.

On Monday, Blount's bond was set at $25,000. He was told to be back in court Nov. 13.
